Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 9, 2026 · Effective: July 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how ServiceWeekly ("ServiceWeekly," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website and weekly email (together, the "Services"). Please read it carefully. By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide to us
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password, which we store only in a securely hashed form — we never keep your plain-text password.
- Profile details. You may optionally add your name, school, grade level, and the causes you care about, to personalize your experience.
- Saved opportunities. When you bookmark an opportunity, we store it so you can find it again in your account.
- Volunteer history. If you log volunteer hours, we store the organization, date, hours, and any notes you add, so you can track your service history. Badges shown on your account are computed from this activity.
- Applications and messages. If you apply to an opportunity, we store your application and any messages you exchange with the organization through ServiceWeekly.
- Reviews. If you review an opportunity, we store your rating and comments.
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to the weekly digest, we collect your email and, optionally, your school and grade.
- Organization submissions. If you post a volunteer opportunity, we collect the organization name and website, a contact name and email, and the details of the opportunity.
- Communications. If you email us or book a call, we keep that correspondence so we can respond and follow up.
1.2 Information we collect automatically
- Cookies. We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to protect our forms against abuse. See Section 4 for details.
- Log and device data. Like most websites, our servers and hosting provider automatically receive standard request data, such as your IP address and browser type. We use this to keep the Services secure, prevent abuse (for example, rate-limiting form submissions), and diagnose problems.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and saved opportunities;
- Send you the weekly digest and other emails you have requested;
- Review, publish, and manage volunteer opportunities submitted by organizations;
- Personalize the opportunities and content we show you;
- Respond to your questions and provide support;
- Keep ServiceWeekly secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with the law; and
- Understand how the Services are used so we can improve them.
We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5. How long we keep information
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account or ask us to remove your information, we delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it.
6. How we protect your information
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypting traffic over HTTPS, storing passwords only as salted hashes, and limiting who can access our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we work hard to keep your information safe.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and update. You can view and edit your profile information at any time from your account page.
- Unsubscribe. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
- Delete. You can ask us to delete your account and personal information by contacting us (see Section 12).
- Additional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us and we will help.
8. Students and younger users
ServiceWeekly is designed for high school students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not create an account or submit information. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.
If you are a teen using ServiceWeekly, we encourage you to involve a parent or guardian and to share only information you are comfortable with. Parents and guardians with questions about their child's information may contact us at any time.
9. International data transfers
ServiceWeekly is operated in the United States, and our service providers may process and store information in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be transferred to, and processed in, the U.S.
10. Third-party links
The Services link to organizations and sign-up pages operated by others. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before sharing information with them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after the changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
